~Meet the Quilters~ m.Lea Ingram~ At the age of three, I spent a year confined to bed with an illness. My constant companions were my crayons & paper and my mom's sewing basket. I have always felt the need to be creating something. Several years ago I decided to combine my two passions of painting and sewing and so my Art Quilts were born. Curiosity and a love of trying new things leads me to explore many techniques, however, my own unique style usually is evident in whatever I do. With my work, I hope to touch the hearts of the viewers and take them on a journey of possibilities. My inspiration is nature and the incredible beauty and solace I experience all around in the great outdoors. Toni Wass ~ Influenced by my Mom, I began hand-stitching at 5, making clothes at 11. By 13, I was inspired to make my first Quilt using a book of classic quilt blocks. I was off and running! In 2004, I opened my fabric store, Tiger Textiles, leaning more & more! I fell in love with Kauai in 2011, and moved here in 2019, where I now teach Quilting classes. As a “Longarm” Quilter, I quilt for others and also make custom quilts. Sewing is my passion, Fabric my addiction. I strive to enjoy the ‘process’. Thank you, Mom, for starting me out with hand stitching. And thank you Kauai for welcoming me into your community. Linda Mathews ~ I’ve always been fascinated with quilting, but never thought I could actually make quilts! I purchased a quilting book in 2019 inspiring me to give it a go. It has been so much fun! I love all of the beautiful fabrics and great patterns to work with. It’s a wonderful community and I have made lots of new friends. I’m so happy to be a part of it and be able to share my quilts. Jeni Hardy~ I began quilting in 1975. At that time everything was done with home made templates and scissors. I even sewed all my seams by hand. In 1991 I went to a week long class at Quilt in a Day in San Marcus CA. It changed my life. I was introduced to not only machine piecing but machine quilting. Over the years we have had wonderful teachers come to Kaua'i and I enjoyed as many as my time allowed. I do not concentrate on any type of quilting I love it all; paper piecing, appliqué, in the hoop Embroidery, scrappy, but the bottom line is must bring a smile to my face when I am finished. That is when I feel like I accomplished what was in my head. Lesley Morris~ From beginning to end, I design, piece and quilt all my quilts using a Juki sewing machine. I consider each piece a work of art, whether it's a wall or bed quilt. As a Graphic Designer, I write my own quilt patterns, and plan to have quilt patterns available in the near future. Then in 2020 it happened; life changed for all of us. Undaunted, "the Five" looked at their first Show as "...a dry run", not expecting anything. The response was "tremendous", the Show was a huge success! Now their fourth annual Show will be held August 18-26 at KSA. Hope you're able to join us in person or virtually! Looking forward ~ ~Aloha! For more information, click on the Bio Photo. We may have a Website or Facebook page ~
